Jasmine

Description of Photo

Three Things Related to Jasmine:
1. This was my outfit to see Blue Jasmine last week. (Depressing in that too real way that only Woody Allen films can be, in case you were wondering.)
2. My cardigan is blue.
3. I miss my friend Jasmine from Missouri.

Purple & Silver

We Live Upstairs Purple & Silver Outfit
Coming in 3rd only to that time I walked around Chicago on a -6 degree, January day (how DO y'all do it?!) and that time I got attacked by seagulls on the boardwalk because some of the tortilla chips I was eating actually blew out of the bag and in the direction of the terrifying squakers, these photos are from the windiest day I've ever lived through. As you can see from the always-flattering scarecrow photo below, it was quite difficult, at times, to keep everything in place. Nevertheless, you get the picture, I think.

Advice time: do not wear heels (or boots with a heel) to venture in a marshy park the day after a rainstorm. There are no words for my genius, sometimes.

Don't forget to check out the Anthropologie giveaway I've got going on, and have a great weekend!

Brocade/Regret

We Live Upstairs Brocade Outfit
There are two things I'm regretting about this outfit: the first is the hat. For some reason, I had it in my head that the color was a much richer, deeper brown than it actually is. Not digging it- at least not with the rest of what's happening. The second regret is the striped sweater underneath the coat and above the blouse. I thought it would add some extra texture/interest, but it just looks unnecessary and maybe a little sloppy to me now. Live and learn, kittens.

Thing I am not regretting: Matt's birthday party tonight!* I'm going to leave you now to bake a cake that will theoretically be the best one I've ever made, but I'll let you know the final verdict next week. See you Monday!

* I realize you cannot regret something that is in the future, but I was reaching to stick with the theme, here. Go with it! : )

Camel, Pink & Electric Blue

We Live Upstairs Camel Pink and Electric Blue Outift
I realize that electric blue and pastel blue are not the same blue, but for me, they both belong in the "dreamy" category. A lot of times, when I try to think up interesting color combinations in my head, I find myself wondering what colors I like to see in/on my candy, ice cream, cake, etc. This is a slippery, slippery slope, friends, when you possess such a sweet tooth as I do. But for now at least, I'm content with taking my cravings out on my wardrobe: birthday cake ice cream (shirt + skirt) with some caramel sauce on top (coat).

Home of the Beanie

We Live Upstairs Home of the Beanie Outfit
By now, it shouldn't be a secret that I tend to wear a beanie any chance I get- especially when it's so very difficult to get out of my warm bed in enough time to fix my hair properly before work. I realize it is redundant and perhaps a bit boring, but please humor me for now (as in, this post and the next one : )) as I blame the weather for this hair rut of mine.

In other news: stripes, polkas dots, and jeans...I think if I had to create my own uniform for everyday, this might be it.

Zissou Forever

We Live Upstairs Zissou Forever Outfit
Favorite Wes Anderson movie, hands down. I usually receive a pair of arched eyebrows or a crinkled nose when people hear that, but what can I say? The submarine scene is enough in itself; I can't help but pay homage.

Triumphant Return

We LIve Upstairs Triumphant return Outfit

This is what I wore during one of the first days of our Christmas break in Cape Girardeau. A day full of thrifting, eating and last-minute gift shopping (though the eating part is always my favorite : )). This was one of the only days I could walk around without a coat on, a feat in itself for late December, and the next day the temperature dropped probably 20 degrees. We even had to come back to Columbia early because of an impending snowstorm...I'd say winter has finally arrived.

Sweet as Honey

We Live Upstairs Sweet as Honey Outfit

I'm gonna make a statement and say that this is definitely the most retro outfit I've ever worn. The 70s collar, the palette of the plaid, the socks + loafers combo; each piece adds a vintage touch to any outfit on its own, but together, they transport the wearer back to 1955 in a flash. Just pack my lunch and call me Susie!

Matt found this skirt for me last year while he was being a good sport at a vintage shop in Nashville. I felt warm and fuzzy then because he was able to pin down my style(s) so well, and I get the same feeling whenever I wear it now because of all the warm experiences I've had in that city that are tied up in this skirt. It's really great when an obsession can double as a memory book. Fuel to the fire, y'all! : )

Touchdown

We Live Upstairs Touchdown Outfit

Boy, was it miserably rainy and cozy last weekend. Obviously, that calls for boots, a big, comfy cardigan, and hot chocolate; not chilling/soaking oneself to the bone with essentially nothing but a grocery bag covering your body in the midst of 70,000 people all in the name of a football game, like the rest of my college town seems to think. Ah well, that's dedication for you. Though I have some, I tend to toss it in the direction of thrifting, vintage hunting, and breakfast foods rather than the end zone, but to each his own : ).
