Video Phone

Hi Friends!
Once upon a time, I was perusing Ashley's blog, and came across a video she made using the Super 8 vintage camera app. I've played around with it a couple times, but today I thought it would be fun to share an outfit video, using the app, instead of just photos.
Unfortunately, my video skills are still rather primal, so it's not to pretty. But here you go:

Yep, that sure is me parading around ever-so-ungracefully. Awkward as usual. And yes, I told you: primal. Next time I think I'll pick out my song beforehand, so as to have a shot at not appearing before you as a complete lunatic.

Anyway, I love this app and had a lot of fun making this 'lil snippet. And in case you actually wanted to see my clothing IRL and not solely through vintage camera filter-land, here that is:

This was supposed to be worn out to a friend's birthday party this weekend, but Matt began feeling incrementally worse after we dined on the best Mexican food Columbia has to offer. Alas, the only eyes this ensemble befell were those of my significant other and the two chile rellenos I quickly devoured. These things happen.

When It Rains...

Dress: UO; Shoes: Target

Bad luck, be damned! It's raining and I'm venturing out to a barbecue. 

I picked this dress up while in St. Louis with Matt last weekend. It's about 2 sizes too big, but was on big time sale, so I'll make it work. Who doesn't love a cut-out?

I was inspired by this Refinery 29 Tutorial to try a cuff-like ponytail accessory. It's a headband I had laying around; my more tame version of the cuff R29 featured. Perhaps I'll work my way up to something more extreme? We'll see. I am very keen on finding more unique/unconventional hair accessories, though. Using objects for purposes other than they're meant, etc. We'll see if I come up with anything crazy.

Hair Pin DIY

So...remember all of those crafting projects I claimed to be so busy with over the past month? I wasn't lying! Here are some hair pins I came up with on the fly, one Sunday afternoon. Being as I had already finished these (and all the rest of my crafts) by the time I was able to take decent photos of everything, they won't actually be step-by-step. But most of the supplies are pictured, and hopefully any instructions will be easy to follow : ). Enjoy!

You Will Need:
-As many bobby pins as your heart desires.
-Jewelry pliers. The smaller the nose, the better.
-Wire (not pictured, as I used it all). I chose gold, but do you, kittens! You want something thin and that bends quite easily, so something of a higher gauge is most desirable.

I found it easiest to make my shapes/words first, then attach it to the bobby pin. So once you play around with your bendy wire and make an object, open up the bobby pin.

-Place your object on the bumpy side of the pin, to get an idea of where it will attach.
-Take the excess wire coming off of your shape, and start at one end of the bumpy side of your pin.
-Wrap the wire as snugly as possible around and around the pin, until you get to where the pin folds.
-You can cut off the excess wire now, and use your pliers to make sure any snaggy (technical term) parts of the wire are tucked in tightly.
-Use your pliers to close the bobby pin.

Fake flowers are also a great addition, if you happen to have any laying around.

Now, I'm sure you'll be able to see this for yourself, should you try this out, but the clips are pretty delicate/bendable, as thinner wire was used. So try to store them in a spot where they won't be damaged. And gentleness is needed when placing them in hair : ).

See what I told you? Pink and purple. And flowers. But at least this time I have a black tee and boots to show for all my girliness. And please excuse these shorts from the post before this one; I just love them too much to stop wearing them. They can fit into an "I just stepped out of a Polly Pocket commercial" ensemble, or something more along the lines of what you see before you. What's not to love?

What did you all do yesterday? "Eat a ton of junk superb delicacies" better be the reply : ).

...This is about as patriotic as it gets. This is actually what I wore yesterday, but don't worry; what I'm wearing today has no semblance of country pride either. Sue me; I'm only a product of my disengaged/disenfranchised generation. Or maybe I'm simply rebelling due to the fact that I will, unfortunately, not be tossing explosives into the air and running like hell today. But I hope you have plenty of firework fun in my honor!
