Bookshelf: A Re-Style

I've mentioned before that in moving into our new place, the realization that we needed more book-friendly storage space became very...real. As we often do, Matt and I ventured to a local thrift shop pretty close to our house, and came home $15 poorer and 1 bookshelf richer; a win in my book.

We knew we wanted to put this shelf in Matt's office, which already holds a few pieces of darker furniture. And since the room is not so expansive in size, I was afraid if we left it dark brown, the room would seem a bit overwhelmed by darkness. Thus, a nice olive was settled on (after much, much debate).

We sturdied the backing, primed, painted, and trinket-ed our way to the finished product. Voila!

We've been way into fixing up our thrift store finds lately...so much so that we've decided one sign of true adulthood is when you'd be totally happy getting a Lowe's gift card for Christmas. Scary stuff, y'all! See you tomorrow with the last of the wedding posts!

The New Classics

First off, I want to thank Lauren from Tastes Like Love for featuring me in her Fancy Folk series today. I had fun with the questions and her blog is a gem! Go check it out!

The striped shirt has been a classic since the beginning of time, I think. It's minimalist, fresh, easy, and just...cool. However, if you have a million striped things in your closet like I do, wearing them solo can get a little stale. How do we fix this? Pair it with something bold, like a floral, in the same palette. I don't know about you, but the pairing has become so innate and comfortable with me that it's almost as much of a staple as denim or chambray with stripes. To the new classics (this is where we "cheers" each other)!

Broke Folk Iced Coffee

One perk of not having a job yet is that I've been able to make coffee for Matt & I at home every morning, instead of overpaying for it at a chain or being forced to ingest the old or burnt kind often served at the workplace : ). However, when you brew out of a 34oz. french press each morning, you go through a lot of beans. So, to combat the wastefulness of pouring any excess down the sink, I've been pouring it into a jar and refrigerating it. And at the end of the week, BOOM: Iced coffee.

And yes, as a former barista and general coffee enthusiast, I realize this is committing all sorts of coffee sins. But a) it tastes just fine and b) I don't feel guilty about wasting money or product. Win/win!

Wedding Photos: Ceremony

Our wedding ceremony was such a blur. A beautiful, emotional blur. It's crazy how months and months of planning go into this one 20-30 minute period of your life, and then it's just over. But that's why you have photos taken, right? : )

Ok, now...may I suggest that you listen to one or both of the following songs while you look at these? The first, "Song for Zula" by Phosphorescent, was our processional and is by no means a romantic song. In fact, the lyrics are kiiiinda anti-love. However, the music procures exactly the moment I wanted while walking down the aisle. Besides, you can't really tell what he's saying, anyway ; ).

The second, "You Can Have It All" by Yo La Tengo, was our recessional. Matt and I had such difficulty settling on a recessional song. We're talking playlists on playlists on playlists. So it was quite the relief when this one popped up in iTunes and we both knew it was the perfect one.

Greeting longtime friends from far away places.

The stems on my bouquet were too long when I took it out of it's vase, and we had only moments to spare before we were supposed to walk. Luckily, Matt and I's friend Brian (also our officiant) is the type of person who can make anything happen. So he picked up one of the knives off of the table, and made it work. Just one of the many reasons we love him.

Sigh.

His vows were amazing. Mine were good, but I'm not ashamed to admit that he blew me out tha water. Not a dry eye in the place.
