The Water's Fine

We Live Upstairs The water's fine outfit

These booties have been almost all I've been wearing (on my feet at least; get your mind out of the gutter!) lately. What's a girl to do when the perfect neutral boot that's been pined for for ages appears within her vicinity and well under her maximum price point? Exactly.

While this getup is not exactly monochrome, it does dip its toe into the shallow end, so to speak; something I'm realizing I do quite a bit when it comes to pattern mixing (color syncing, not toe dipping)-- it's just so easy! Using a simple concept like monochrome to construct a relatively complex ensemble (at least on most days, if not here) regularly reminds me of the endless opportunities clothing provides to one who wishes to engineer something artistic. You've heard the "express yourself" thing before, so I won't repeat it now (except I did).

  1. I love how you layer clothes...I actually thought the shirt and dress were all one at first. I love pattern mixing but it can sometimes border on garish but the monochromatic'ish slant here keeps this lovely and fluid :) And those boots are fab!

    1. Thanks so much! Pattern mixing is what I do; I can't get enough. Some days I do have to stop myself, though.

  2. I love how you layered that striped long sleeve with the short sleeve dress, i never thought of doing that without something collared. and i'm right there with you with the shoes. i have that grey suede pair, and i wear the crap out of them shamelessly. it's going to be a sad day when they finally get ugly :(

  3. You look great! I love me some good pattern-mixing. That's all I wore in high school was pattern on top of pattern on top of pattern. Wait did I make that past tense? I don't think I've quite outgrown it!
