Introducing a new, weekly (jk...probably) segment about things I spray paint over the weekend. Above: priming many no-name hardbacks and golden jars.

Preppy Twist

We Live Upstairs Preppy Twist Outfit

The first time I wore this, it was about 20 degrees cooler outside, so I paired it with brown, knee-high boots; taking a walk on the preppy side. The whole thing felt a bit too Ralph Lauren for my taste, but a couple days later, when December provided me with a 70 degree Sunday (what?!), I took the opportunity to quirk it up a bit and trade the boots for a pair of sandals I didn't get to wear enough this summer. Equipped with my oddball footwear, chipped toenail polish, and mixed patterns, I ventured out in my version of preppy to a local park to lay in the grass and pretend it's July. A day well spent, if you ask me.

Poor timing on the bubble blowing. I blame the photographer.

I've got an exciting weekend coming up! My birthday was yesterday, (so naturally it's my birthday until the end of the week : )), Matt's graduating tomorrow, his parents are coming up for the occasion (and bringing our new mattress and treadmill with them!), and our anniversary (third) is Sunday! Phew! See y'all Monday!

Red and Plaid and Stripes All Over

We Live Upstairs Red and Plaid and Stripes All Over Outfit

I have been all over some stripe mixing lately. I haven't been able to photograph every ensemble containing them, but trust; there've been a lot. I've noticed that I tend to gravitate toward stripe on stripe or stripe on plaid. And, lucky for me, these two happened to be getting chummy near each other in my ever-crowded closet; convenient since I've been furrowing my brow over what to pair with this skirt for a month or two. Lesson learned: sometimes the closet gods lead you right where you need to go.

Well, I'm off to enjoy some great company, pizza, and drinks for my birthday tonight (my actual DOB isn't until the 13th), and I hope you get to do the same (not necessarily in honor of my birthday, but just because you have great friends who also like pizza. However, if you'd like to raise a glass to my 23rd year, I wouldn't be mad at that ; ))!
See you Monday!

P.S.- If you haven't noticed, I'm more than mildly obsessed with borders, lines, shapes, and cut-outs right now. Indulge me for the moment, k? : )

Skittles, Lettuce, Pea Soup

We Live Upstairs Skittles Lettuce Pea Soup Outfit

Hello friends, happy Monday! I hope your weekend was full of great times with fantastic people like mine was!

This combination was inspired, off-the-cuff, by all the lovely shades of green seen in this article/slideshow; though instead of featuring them each separately, I decided to throw them all together in (on?) the giant crock-pot that is my body (sorry, I just really wanted to make a soup analogy since, not moments ago, Matt engineered/I sampled the most perfect soup on god's green earth. It doesn't exactly flow like my typically otherworldly zingers, but I get points for attempting, yes?).

Anyway, I've seen monochromatic ensembles time and again, but it only just occurred to me to try one on for size myself. I'm pleased to report that I'm pleased and that I'll be doing it again. Purples look particularly flattering against red hair, so I expect it will be my next victim.

Passing Through

We Live Upstairs Passing Through outfit

Having breakfast with one of your best friends at your favorite breakfast spots really sets the tone for a great weekend.
My mother came to visit; her last visit before she moves out of state. It's sort of surreal knowing that I will no longer have any family in Missouri with me, but our weekend full of good food, photo albums, and catch-ups will hopefully last me until our next visit.
She's currently still here, so I think I'll leave it at that. Catch another DIY here tomorrow!

Everything about what I'm wearing reminds me of a starburst or popsicle. Which, in this heat, sounds just magnificent.
This pair of shorts is one of the items I picked up on my mini shopping trip last weekend. They were quite the steal, but the deal was that the zipper was completely broken. I snagged them anyway and sewed snaps on instead! Now they're perfect : ) I will say, all this time to myself lately has turned me into quite the crafty bee. Not complaining!

And I whipped up this collar necklace using the DIY from Refinery 29. I made some variations, of course, but I think it turned out pretty well; especially considering I used the leather from an old handbag that bit the dust! I can't wait to make more in all sorts of colors and fabrics! I'm planning on doing a few posts about all the goodies I've made the past couple of weeks, but I'm waiting on the return of my camera boy ; )

Well, I'm off to enjoy a weekend visit from my friend Daniel! There'll be reminiscing and laughter a-plenty. Do y'all have anything neat planned?
