Stripes & Basics

This title is sort of redundant because who doesn't consider a b&w striped tee a basic nowadays? Though I suppose the baseball hem does add a little something and red, white, and blue striped varsity bombers are less common, hence the extra mention. BRB guys- just having debates with myself.

Something not redundant (and also shown here) is Matt and I's first (and last) visit to the neighboring town of Moberly. We went to a deliver a desk that we sold, but stayed for the desolate downtown streets and plethora of for-lease,rent,sale storefronts (?). It was an unfulfilling exploration expedition with exposed brick walls a-plenty, and so here we are. You got me once again, small-town Missouri.

I spent almost the entire weekend with a hot glue gun, can of spray paint, and wire cutters in my hands (not at the same time), which means I'll have plenty of DIYs for you in the near future. In the meantime, enjoy your week!

Leather and Stripes

Are you tired of seeing this jumper yet? No? Me either : ). I figure it will be about a week and a half, two weeks max, before any leather-like goods of mine will be stuffed in the closet until November; gasping for air like my pretty-much-nothing dresses and tanks have been doing for the past five or so months. So I'll bring it out for fresh air once more and let it say its goodbyes to the light of day. Sayonara baby- it's been real.

Orange, Magenta & Plum

So, I know I said this was the windiest day ever, but after this doozy of a Sunday, I'm not sure anymore. These photos were taken, oh...maybe a month ago?...and they're just now going up because that's how much I have not wanted to edit lately. Matt and I have joined a gym and perhaps it's the spillover from the go-getter attitude I have there, but Photoshop is just not something I want to sit my bum in front of right now. I do, however, thoroughly enjoy the blogging experience as a whole, so hopefully this phase passes quickly. Also, I told you I'd be back. See you tomorrow, maybe?

Purple & Silver

Coming in 3rd only to that time I walked around Chicago on a -6 degree, January day (how DO y'all do it?!) and that time I got attacked by seagulls on the boardwalk because some of the tortilla chips I was eating actually blew out of the bag and in the direction of the terrifying squakers, these photos are from the windiest day I've ever lived through. As you can see from the always-flattering scarecrow photo below, it was quite difficult, at times, to keep everything in place. Nevertheless, you get the picture, I think.

Advice time: do not wear heels (or boots with a heel) to venture in a marshy park the day after a rainstorm. There are no words for my genius, sometimes.

Camel, Pink & Electric Blue

I realize that electric blue and pastel blue are not the same blue, but for me, they both belong in the "dreamy" category. A lot of times, when I try to think up interesting color combinations in my head, I find myself wondering what colors I like to see in/on my candy, ice cream, cake, etc. This is a slippery, slippery slope, friends, when you possess such a sweet tooth as I do. But for now at least, I'm content with taking my cravings out on my wardrobe: birthday cake ice cream (shirt + skirt) with some caramel sauce on top (coat).

I've got a busy week ahead! Preparations for Valentines Day, Matt's birthday, and a visit from my future in-laws! What do y'all have planned?

Accessorize the Dreary Away

Last weekend was easily the coldest weekend of the season, so far. So what do I do? Bare my midriff, of course. I love doing the opposite of what's expected, and this bit of skin along with my necklace-as-a-headband and my actual necklace allowed me to toe a line in just the way I like to. And, along with adding some rebellion to my life in some way, the whimsicality of the accessories I chose also aided me in pretending it's not gray and frigid outside all. the. time. What are your favorite ways to escape from reality winter?

Key Lime Cranberry

I'm a big color palette person when it comes to clothing. I'll see an inspiring combination somewhere and interpret it my own way. But, more often than not, it's color rather than the shape or other individual elements of the clothing that strikes me and makes me feel something. Also, in case your weren't aware, I'm very much a food person; so when I find two items in my closet that resemble things I have in my refrigerator and they go well together, it's kind of a done deal : ).

Cream & White

I love playing with different shades of white; it's a sophisticated way of procuring acceptable results after fumbling around in my closet in the morning. But really, I love a monochromatic scheme in general; and while the pants I'm wearing are full of color rather than void of it, I do believe you and I both would prefer to see these thighs in something subtle, rather than ostentatious. I do, however, own a pair of white, high-waisted, denim shorts that I've worn a whole two times- so be prepared for that this summer. Hopefully the #mileaday works its magic.

In other news, I'd really like to start doing more DIYs again now that the holidays are over. Anything you'd like to see? 

Tomboy

After waking at 7am on a Sunday for my occasional barista duties, I headed home and into the backyard to stand in frolic in the last bits of the snow remaining from Christmas; clothed, of course, in the masculine elements of a blazer and bowtie. While I do  sporadically remember to pack my femininity in my bag for the day, I do believe that tomboyish-ness is in muh blood. What can I say? I love a pleated pant and a collar. If you have them, what are your tomboy essentials?
