Skittles or Peas? Also: Liebster.

Flats: Old Navy

The preschoolers I work with always tell me this necklace looks like a string of the green skittles or peas. What are you, new around here? It's totes skittles.

My mom bought me this sweater from a local vintage shop when she was visiting last. It was a bit overpriced, as most of the items at this particular spot tend to be, but I couldn't refuse that purple. It's really unfortunate; that place has so many gems to share but I think they might price themselves out of the lil college town we live in. But I suppose they're doing something right- they're still open!

So, about that DIY I mentioned...didn't happen. I clumsily stumbled to my deathbed on Friday, and was holed up for the majority of the weekend. However, I did manage to procure two out of the three needed materials. Also, I was surprised to find out yesterday that the final exam for one of my classes is today; not a week from now. Thus, I have been studying my brains out and not making pretty things. This is all to say that though my schedule for the week is jammed, I'm going to do my absolute best to make time for the craft.

And lastly, but not least-ly (?), Andrea from left brain, right brain, pug brain awarded me with my first blog award- The Liebster Blog Award!

The rules:
1. Choose 5 up-and-coming blogs to give the Liebster award to. Blogs must have less than 200 followers.
2. Show your thanks to the blogger who gave you the award by linking back to them.
3. Post the award on your blog.
4. List the bloggers you gave the award to and link to their sites.
Leave a comment on their blog to let them know they've received the award.
5. Share five random facts about yourself.

And now, the five lucky ducks (jk, y'all) I choose:

1. Pia from Making Memories. One beautiful lady sharing her thoughts and outfits. Did I mention she's super pretty?
2. Rosie from Prints Charming. One of my bffs. And yours in the making! Promise.
3. Karasyn from Tulips and Daisies. Karasyn shares her corner of the world through some of the most honest and thoughtful lenses. It's really a pleasure to read her blog.
4. Lauren from A Blessed Unrest. I love the way Lauren looks at life from a realistic but entertaining POV. Sometimes I feel like I'm living life right along with her.
5. Michelle from On the Adventure. I'll just say this now: you can't read Michelle's blog and be/stay in a bad mood. It just can't happen. I love her spontaneous spirit and her advice!

Ok, guys. Go show these ladies some love! And thanks again, Andrea!

Five facts about me:
1. I'm vegetarian.
2. I pee a lot. Like, all the time.
3. Probably because I drink water a lot. Like, all the time.
4. I can't listen to music and work at the same time (so sad, I know!)
5. Abnormally large (clearly hormone infested, mutant) fruit scares me and I won't buy it.

Have a great Monday, everyone!

Just wanted to make sure you guys take me super seriously.

This is another combination I just conjured up in my head while stumbling out of bed and dreaming about coffee. The colors work well together, no? I was pleasantly surprised.

My hair was supposed to be twisted on both sides into a loose bun the the back. But by the end of the day, as you can see, it was falling out like crazy and contained some kind of debris. It is not uncommon for me to come home with various objects in my hair, especially since I work at a preschool. Y'all don't even know.

I'm planning on a neat DIY for this weekend- if I can find the required supplies. You know, in between rounds and rounds of homework and studying for finals. It'll be a nice little break! What are your plans for the weekend?

Thanks so much for reading! It means a lot. <3

P.S.- These auctions end on Sunday! Come take a look!

Denim on Denim Monster

Shirt: Thrifted
Vest: Thrifted
Pants: Target
Boots: Asos

This is my first (definitely not the last!) attempt at denim on denim. I've been trying to mix and mingle the various shades of blue and indigo covering my floor for the past couple of months with no satisfactory result. Finally, I gave up and submitted to this more easily achieved, less noteworthy option. But mark my words, pair blues and indigos I shall!

I started out the day with my shirt tucked in, but after a stop at the restroom wherein I forgot to re-tuck (this was before my morning coffee, friends), I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror and like what I saw. In hindsight, this choice is probably not the most flattering thing for my tree trunks also known as thighs (thanks, preceding females in my family!) but I liked the way it looked as a whole.

These boots came from Asos in...maybe September? October? Not sure. Anyway, I'm pretty disappointed that they're already this scuffed and worn looking. That's what I get for wearing them in the rain and snow, I suppose. I really need to learn to do my research when it comes to purchasing footwear. Currently needed: a quality pair of sandals.

How is everyone's Thursday? And since I'm feeling rather "blah" with what's in my kitchen lately, what's the best meal you've eaten this week? Make it lively! : )

Things I Learned When I Looked Up From Facebook: Crete & Greece Edition

Believe it or not, I was actually considering ending this little series I have going, due to the fact that I may have already covered the most ridiculous fashion eras. But then I stumbled upon my slides for Crete and Greece. My, oh my.

Do you (speaking to the ladies, here) enjoy your bra? Or having your breasts covered in general? Minoan women didn't:

We Live Upstairs Crete and Greece

During this time, women's' breasts were seen as signs of power and life, so they were often put on display. Like trophies. Round, jiggly trophies. Too much? Sorry.
Sidenote: I'm humming the tune to "Free Fallin'" by Tom Petty, only replacing fallin' with ballin'. Sorry, again.

Also, the fact that my professor had this slide up just makes me giggle:

We Live Upstairs Crete and Greece
*

Am I 13? Perhaps....

Okay, we all know that Greek men wore togas:

We Live Upstairs Crete and Greece
Cue the "Free Ballin' Fallin'."

But did you know that they also wore corsets?

We Live Upstairs Crete and Greece
So, like this. Only, you know...more ancient-er.

It's good to know that men exposed themselves to the same type of abdominal torture they later expected women to endure : ). Bravo, gentlemen. Bra-vo.

Speaking of bras, on the rare occasion that Minoan women did feel like covering themselves up, they wore something like this:

We Live Upstairs Crete and Greece

Very similar to today's bandeau.

That's all I have for y'all today! We'll see if I continue this next week...there are more eras that I find interesting, but I'm not quite sure if they'll be entertaining. 'Til next time! : )

Shirt: Thrifted
Sweater: "Borrowed" from mom years ago
Pants: New York & Co.
Shoes: Target
Pin: Christmas gift from Lydia

I did it! I wore the big daddy (long leg?) shoes to school! Whoo! It might have been the fact that I was wearing pants versus a mini, or the fact that I felt like such a wuss for, well, wussing out the other day, but either way- I owned them. And I didn't trip! Not once. Here's the part where we pretend I accomplished something legitimate.
I did get a few looks; I'm 5'8" without the shoes...but, once again, I'm used to it.

This shirt is one of the many items the thrift gods blessed me with at The Wardrobe last week (I can't wait to share them!). I swear, it was a free-for-all in there. Unfortunately, I tried it on for the first time just before these photos, and discovered that it's pretty gigantic on me. Nothing a little tucking in and sleeve rolling can't fix! And isn't the collar perfect? There's not much more I could ask for from a collar.

This pin is now one of my most prized possessions; a) who doesn't love Bambi? (I'm pretty sure hunters are not part of my current blog demographic) and b) it's from my BFF. Where's the bad? NOWHERE.

I'm planning on another "Things I Learned When I Looked Up From Facebook" for tomorrow, but is there anything you would like to see on here? I'm brainstorming some content ideas, but I'd love any input you have!

How's your week going thus far?

Currently...

We Live Upstairs Currently

Well friends, I regret to inform you that I have not the time to do the research/photo hunting that the "Your Next BFF" posts require, therefore you shall be sustained with a "Currently..." post; the idea of which has been borrowed from dear, dear Lydia.
Here goes:

Obsessing over...Lil baby blog + muh fitness. Since starting blogging, it's like I've sort of uncovered a passion I didn't know I had..? I'm sorry, I'll wait while you try to keep your breakfast down. I know that sounds super cheesy, but I'm seriously loving sharing with everyone and making new friends. It's really great to feel this connected to something.

Also, I re-started my running routine yesterday and I'm happy to say I feel like me again! I'm not sure what happened, but I fell off the wagon and forgot how good I feel when I run regularly. Totes getting bikini ready, you guys.

Working On...Blog, duh! : ) Will be working on in the next 15 minutes: sourcing homework.

Thinking About...How much I'll miss Matt when he's in Greece this summer for a WHOLE MONTH. Everyone come visit me in June!

Anticipating...Finals! Ugh, I try not to think about it, which leads me to procrastinating, which makes me more stressed than I was in the first place! Vicious cycle, y'all. Vicious. Cycle.

Listening To...Matt crack his knuckles. Sorry if anyone's grossed out by that. It's a bad habit we both share.

Eating...Nothing! But my tum is a-growlin'!

Wishing For...A vacation. I want to run away to some exciting place so badly. Greece would be nice...sigh.

And I just wanted to add this:

We Live Upstairs Currently

This is my dog, Lola. She likes to get fancy like her mom. Unfortunately for her, it looks better on me. Phat chance, Loles.

Shirt: JCP a couple years ago
Collared Shirt: Thrifted

Necklace: Gifted by Matt
Flats: Thrifted in High School (and it shows)

Blue was just my color on Friday; emotionally and sartorially. It was just one of those days when I wanted to be in bed more than anything else, and nothing could get me out of my funk. But alas, I had things to do and places to be, so I sucked it up and kept truckin'.

I might never get rid of this shoulder decal shirt- I love it so much. It's an XL, and was a little too big for me when I bought it, but it was the only one left and I was so in love I didn't care. But now, after losing a significant amount of weight since its purchase, it's noticeably too big for me. Do I care now? Nope.

These shoes are from a Goodwill in my hometown- I found them in high school. One of my favorite finds ever, but they're really starting to show their age. Whatevs- I'll wear 'em til they are actually falling apart. What are some of your ride-til-they-die items?

The end of semester is drawing near and I'm going to be spread pretty thin until then, so bear with me! I'll be posting as much as I can, but I might have to take a hiatus here and there.

I hope everyone's week is starting off well!

Hey, Guess What!

I have some stuff for sale!
Take a gander here and see if anything ruffles your feathers! Also, if you think someone you know's feathers might be ruffled, I'd really appreciate it if you'd pass the word along! Just think of it as putting a couple (a little more than a couple ; )) dollars into my camera fund jar.

Thanks! I love you! ...Was that too much?

Shoes: Target (this is becoming far too redundant)

Disclaimer: This is what I wore until I stepped out the door (changed into sandals that I couldn't seem to get a decent photo of). I just couldn't justify walking around on a college campus all day in these shoes. Maybe you can't tell, but they're a good five inches tall. If it were evening, sure. If I didn't constantly have to do the pretty-much-run to class, of course. If I were wearing shorts, pants, or a longer skirt- why not? Maybe all of these reasons are legitimate, or maybe I was just feeling particularly self conscious...it's hard to say. What do you think? Should I have just sucked it up and done what I wanted in the first place?

This weekend has already dissolved into one giant to-do list, unfortunately. But hopefully some of my tasks will end up benefiting lil baby blog here in the future! What about you guys? Any big plans for the weekend? Please, let me live vicariously through you : ).

I suspect if a real deal cowboy (has anyone actually met one of those?) approached me, he would be extremely disappointed to see a bolo tie, a staple of his heritage, tied into a bow underneath such a feminine collar. "Quit yer whinin' and teach me how to lasso!" I'd say. Sorry.

I'm not sure y'all needed such a close up view of these brogues....They're in rough shape around the toe, but I love them dearly. I found them on sale last year after my oxfords from UO crapped out (UO shoes falling apart..? I never!) and it's been hot + heavy ever since.

I hope everyone is having a great week! This one seems especially long for me, but it's almost over!

Things I Learned When I Looked Up From Facebook: Ancient Egypt Edition

In searching through my History of Western Dress slides for the era with the second most potential for hilarity, (I'm pretty sure last week's edition, the 16th century, takes the cake for ridiculousness) I stumbled upon ancient Egypt.
Spoiler: leopard skin loin cloths are in your immediate future.

First off, lets talk about hats:

We Live Upstairs Ancient Egypt

Apparently, if you wore this bad boy, you were kind of a big deal. However, I discovered an uncanny resemblance to this gentleman:

We Live Upstairs Ancient Egypt

Not to mention, Mr. Ancient up top is totally giving the suspicious side-eye like something's up. Conspiracy? Probably.

We Live Upstairs Ancient Egypt

You could identify a priest by his bald head, short, straight beard, and his...loin cloth. Leopard skin loin cloth, at that. So basically, if he looked like today's stereotypical bouncer, drug dealer, and male stripper rolled into one, he was probably a Holyman. : )

We Live Upstairs Ancient Egypt

Can we PLEASE talk about this wig? For once, I have no words. Oh, wait, yes I do: this and this (ears, specifically). Enough said.

We Live Upstairs Ancient Egypt

Lastly, ladies used to wear cones of perfume on their heads to a) play like they didn't wreak and b) attract a fella'. Allegedly, these cones were made of oils and fats that were supposed to melt and mix with the wig.
I mean...................I just...............
You saw the wig, right?

This may look like your average Bill Cosby sweater, but I definitely feel the Barney (dinosaur, not Stinson) vibe when I take it out about town. I definitely get the side-eye when I wear it, but I'm used to that by now. I told you, I'm crazy about crazy sweaters. Also: how am I still wearing sweaters in mid-late April? Not that I'm complaining- I'm a layering queen at heart. I actually tend to feel confused about what one wears during summer, and always feel unprepared when the season really hits. Where was I? Oh, the Midwest is an odd place.

This is the first time I've been able to braid my hair in over a year! Please, please, congratulate me on my stupendous achievement. Now I just wish my bangs would figure themselves out.

Fingers crossed that I'll have the second installment of "Things I Learned When I Looked Up From Facebook" ready for y'all tomorrow. Thanks for reading!
